The Preliminary Written Test (PWT) was a single paper of 3 hours in duration. It contained 200 questions and had total marks 200. It was objective in nature. The minimum qualifying marks for this test is 30% for all categories. It means that candidate belonging to any category needs to score at least 30% (OCs, BCs, SCs, STs, Ex-servicemen)
The cut-off marks will be depending on many factors such as number of vacancies available, number of candidates, previous years cut-off and difficulty level of the exam.

Please note that only securing the minimum qualifying marks does not guarantee the candidate a post. A merit list is prepared and the candidates are given preference according to their merit.
Once the candidate has cleared the preliminary exam, he will move to the next stage where he will need to go through the Physical Measurement Test(PMT) and Final Written Exam. The preliminary exam is only a screening test meant to select eligible candidates.
